In the summer of 2008 we finally made our escape from London and headed down to Lewes in East Sussex. One aspect of the town I had most looked forward to was bonfire night.

It didn't disappoint! Not only is Guy Fawkes remembered but also the 17 protestant martyrs who were burnt in Lewes in the mid 16th Century. To commemorate them each bonfire society parades 17 burning crosses through town before going to an amazing firework display where effigies of Guy Fawkes, the pope and an unpopular public figure are blown up in impressive style. I joined Southover Bonfire Society & more info can found here.
